Evidence of forest fire was everywhere. Only fires attributable to man are suppressed, including downed power lines. Tour group pictured and information courtesy of the Yellowstone Association, truly gracious hosts.
Largest alpine lake in the US and second in the world, after Lake Titicaca. Dimly visible on the near shore is the Yellowstone Lake Hotel - highly recommended.
The largest hot spring in the US. Frequently photographed aerially and so named because of its many colors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Prismatic_Spring
Female sheltering from the heat. Males regrow their horns every year. Elk look like deer, only larger. A tourist who got too close to a mother and calves was kicked in the head, during my visit.
